Spider-Man: Future Foundation (Black)

Here's another!

Again: The skeleton of this illustration is from a now classic Mark Bagley Sensational Spider-Man,  I only re-illustrated and changed the costume.

Spider-Man: White 01

The skeleton of this illustration is from a now classic Mark Bagley Sensational Spider-Man,  I only re-illustrated and changed the costume. What a shame I haven't read the Future Foundation, but I really think having a white costume for Spidey is really nice. The center emblem that extends to the sides --really cool! Very innovative and yes, futuristic. That's actually one thing about Spider-Man, they keep changing his costume from time to time but it just gets back to the original after a while --and we all (almost) love it.

Spider-Man: Black 01

Spider-man in black costume • art by Erik Katukomal

Here I based the pose with Spider-Man 3 movie's black Spider-man but used the old/classic black costume design instead. I really hope that if they'd do the black costume saga in the new Amazing Spider-Man movie series, they'd stick with the original design. I believe it really is one, if not the best among Spidey's costumes.

Oishi's Cuckoomix

Works from long ago, in an office far far away... so don't call the numbers or ask for these events, they're long past gone or done or... none. Oh I miss this bird, I'll do something to see him more often, so watch out for some major cuckooness coming.

Special guest colorist: Jeffrey Benitez, ow yeah!

Cuckoo bird is not mine. I have my own bird. And I'll try not to be creative in writing this anymore because this is nothing more than a disclaimer to say that I don't own this character. I just did the artwork and plot and the colors too (on comics 1 and 2) but all the rights and the TMs and the circle Cs are reserved for Liwayway Marketing Corp. and Oishi. Yeah that sums everything. I'm just a fan! :)

Siguro dahil takot tayong bangungutin.

Walang Punitan ng Brip!

(Kahit pa wala namang "naka-brip" sa Earth's Mightiest Heroes --at least sa pelikula)

"Of course!" ang sagot kung napanood ko na ang Avengers.

It's not actually a different opinion.

ng punyetang Armageddon at Independence Day.

A Rather Unimportant Notice

Dear all but few followers and incidental readers,

In the next few posts, small changes will hit our pages. As Pilosopotassium blog is becoming more and more but a personal channel for myself (a channel which I openly share for everyone who has the time to lend), I decided not to host exclusively for the visual of arts but also for literature. Yes, I write from time to time. Short stories, short short stories, sometimes long short stories, poems and short short short stories. And that's not all. I also write (but of course!) in my native language. I'm a Filipino ladies and gentlemonsters, and so proud I want to enrich our already rich culture in arts and literature. So expect to see both English and Filipino (I'm still not that confident in my Japanese, so sorry) in the coming posts. Actually, this has been planned months and months ago. Google Adsense does not support Filipino language. At first I held back and tried talking English for their approval. But not anymore. I'll pursue what I want to say in the language I want to use. I took out my very few panels of advertisement to fully personalize (as in personal use) this blog. Away from commercial interest, away from profit (there's nothing bad about it!), I just want to write what I think is good. And that's it.

Thanks. :-D

Marking Horizon

Marking Horizon
Digital Painting

Erik Katukomal

Back to speed-painting! Done in an hour. I think this is the 2nd lighthouse painting I've done in my life. What's good about such subject? Maybe the vertical intervention to the horizontal calm. Maybe the stature that holds the sky from plunging to its mirror self, the sea. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that I had nothing else in my mind and my canvas called for something done.

Running Paint

Early afternoon, I was browsing The Unofficial Frank Frazetta Fantasy Art Gallery. Captivated by the late artist's outstanding talent, I was inspired to draw something animalistic! Yep animal anatomy wasn't easy at all, especially for a person like me who always drew humans and machines. And a challenge it is!

For The Record

It was summer in 2007, my long time buddy and I went to UP Village to have some rounds of beer in one of the common hang-outs. The usual, our talks of politics, music, women, philosophy and the arts came in with a few drops of alcohol. Cold beer, humid air and profound points of view, such ingredients to spark a sleeping desire to create something out of thin imagination.

Session dismissed, I went alone to my then rented room in Krus Na Ligas to end the Friday night. As I was looking in the ambient lit ceiling of old plywood, images and words came mixing in my head. I took out my phone and let the words travel from my head to my veins to my fingers to the pixels that blacken to form images of syntax enough for us to understand. It was the birth of one of my most favored creations. The concept of Hinagpis. The words that evolved through time. The work that I wished myself to be remembered.

(Speaking of remembering, this blog post is to record the history. For when I'm not able to remember, this document would take me back. Refresh the images of its roots. Dust off the hidden details that time itself concealed.)

This is to give you a background. And maybe me too if lack of sleep took my memory.

Almost five years have now passed. Things must be done. Sketches must be painted. Questions, answers. Capital letters, periods. Intros, credits. Either we finish it or we just forget about it. I say we finish it.

Speed-Painting: Punisher

55 minutes! Haha. This time I adjusted the height of my chair, the pain above my wrist didn't kick in. Maybe it was the position-height all along. Well I still liked the Biorider better. This Punisher is ummm a bit... I don't know. More practice!

Speed-Painting: Biorider

Did some fast drawings in Photoshop today. Think I'm getting a bit better at this. Here is Biorider, one of the two other forms of Kamen Rider Black RX. Started from blank "canvas", all Photoshop. I tried to time this sketch but unfortunately I lost track how long it took me, due to work. Well I was doing this little doodle in between waiting for my scripts (work). But approximately, the total is 1 hour including the colors. More or less. No, I think more. Heh. More practice!

Speed-Painting: Spider-Man

Speed-painting on my favorite costumed dude. Took me 30 minutes. All photoshop. Not good enough. I'll get better with lots of practice. We'll see. Hope you like it. :-)

Basag-Tuka Revised

Having fresh plans for this title, I decided to revise some details of Basag-Tuka for more culture based accuracy. I finished all revisions before Feb hit my calendar, and now time to move on the next project. A regular chat with cooey2ph, of eastofherewestofthere.blogspot.com really, boosted my enthusiasm back. Rest for a while PS3, must remember my oath.

Just random digital sketch. All Photoshop. :-)

Unang Silip

I'm glad I got to squeeze a little time tonight to reupdate my blog. It's been a long while that this channel of my life went to say something. Yeah. So here's what I have in my mind right now.

That's it. No spoilers. :-)

4X4 :-)

Here's one of the last illustrations for 2011. It's the famous "4x4" comic skit for Babol Gang, aired on GMA 7 months ago. Just a disclaimer, I didn't write it, so the joke isn't my intellectual property.
