Elitistang Supot, Ang Pagbabalik...

Abangan ang kanilang pagbabalik... :D

Old Works: Frustrated Symbiote

Did this in summer of 2004. :D

Old Works: Brawl

Spider-man is fighting two opponents here, Brock and the symbiote. Ol' black costume cracked Petey's arm. Ouch! But there's no referee.
Another punch from Spidey, Venom slides for a knockdown but the costume won't let him, forms a solid support.

But Spidey reinforced his punch with the power of his waist. Got that from Jet Li. Oh well, I wanted Spidey to win.

Did this around early 2000, college days. This sequence was part of the fanfic comics I did back then. I wanted to highlight real-life situations for my favorite Marvel characters. Here I showed how hard could it be for Spider-man fighting Venom who's like a 2-in-1 opponent-- the hulking Brock and the alien symbiote. Whereas Brock's humanly shortcomings can be filled in by the symbiote's unique abilities, that's like fighting a killer machine!

The end part of the comics showed the two fighters stopped combat due to excessive fatigue. They were fighting almost the whole afternoon, bruised all over and injured, they found out they can't almost move any longer (Spidey was pretending he could still go on, he mocked Brock who was vomiting and asked for another round. Actually his left arm's broken), well they just cursed each other as they parted. Have to find those pages. :D

Respect and Integrity

The issue about Carlo J. Caparas being proclaimed National Artist annoyed me back then. But being an artist born in a bit later generation, I wasn't too aware why this was a really big issue. I know I'm not the only one. Most younger artists now are not too aware of CJC's works, in terms of quality etc. I just know the titles of most of his works. His works, really now? Well, this article from KOMIKERO DOT COM, official website of famed writer and artist Gerry Alanguilan (check his works here: http://alanguilan.com/komikero/portfolio.html) opened my eyes (or nose) for the issue's core stench.

This article, written and compiled by Mr. Alanguilan,  is a very comprehensive read for the not so aware dudes like me. Saying Caparas is not good for the title based solely from his crappy "Komiks" billboard back then in EDSA is not enough. This article collected quotes from different respected figures and credible critics and put updates in chronological order, making it easier to comprehend. A certified must-read!

The National Artist award is not like an "artist of year" award we get as we graduate in high school. It's also not your average employee of the year (or even of the century) award. This award is just in a different league. It's an honor that equals eternal life, as how I saw it now, for it will be forever etched in the country's art history. Having Carlo J. Caparas as a National Artist just tells us that Vizconde Massacre 2 - God Have Mercy on Us, Kuratong Baleleng and The Cory Quirino Kidnap: NBI Files (and a whole lot more) are now our national treasures. Such a rude way to disrespect other National Artists and other much more deserving ones out there.

ANIME REVIEW: IRON MAN (ANIME)

For my first animation/film review, IRON MAN!

Iron Man is the first series that aired from the 4 Marvel Anime projects. It is a 12-episode mini-series featuring Tony Stark as he went to Japan and built a new Arc Station in Tokyo. In the story, as Stark arrived in Land of the Rising Sun, many speculations came out as different public opinions were stated. Some Japanese were not so enthusiastic about Tony Stark's presence and much more in the construction of the Arc Station. But public opinions were much less annoying compared to a series of terrorist attacks aimed to destroy Stark and his precious project. A villainous organization named as Zodiac, armed with hi-tech and unconventional military weaponry and sabotage tactics, was responsible for most of the attacks.

COMIC REVIEW: KAMEN RIDER SPIRITS

The first comic feature in this blog: Kamen Rider Spirits! Written by Kenichi Muraeda, based on Shotaro Ishinomori's original story, Kamen Rider Spirits is a manga (Japanese comics) series about Kamen Riders (known outside Japan as Masked Riders) rendered in a much darker and more adult tone.

BEN TABLET IS WORKING...

It's been around 2 days now since I last uploaded in this blog. It's also the same time since I last uploaded some Ben Tablet comic strip. I have to apologize for that, but the truth is I'm just busy drawing more pages of the PROTO-ZAP comics. Yes the main storyline of Ben Tablet's alter-ego, is in production. My target is to finish the first part of the comics before Comic Con this April. But since I'm balancing my schedule with my day-job, I'm not very sure if I can make it on time. But surely this project will push through, whether in this upcoming Comic Convention or the next or the next life :D, I intend to finish this comics. Thanks for all the sweet people who followed, read and supported me in this. :D

BEN TABLET STRIP 002

For English translation, read more.

FEATURED ARTIST: ROGER CRUZ!

My first featured artist in this blog, and man how I am proud to feature this guy, Mr. Roger Cruz! He's a fantastic illustrator, as his artworks below will more than tell you so. I first found his works in deviantart.com, a website that serves as cyber-portfolios for many visual artists around the world. I'm a member of that site too and a "devwatcher" (as the deviant community would call a follower) of Mr. Cruz's art. Through the time of watching his every new uploads, I became a fan more and more. Now, featuring him in this blog for art enthusiasts is really a pleasure.

Here are some of my favorite Roger Cruz artworks, and I tell you, these are just too few among the many awesome pieces he has.

There's a reason why this one is on top. Obviously this is my favorite work from him, 'coz I could see myself in this kid.

BEN TABLET STRIP 001

Here's the first strip I did for BEN TABLET, early this year. Just a little intro for the comics. :D

BEN TABLET and PROTO-ZAP's STORY --TRANSLATED!

From here starts his graphic adventures, Ben Tablet The Pixelated Hero PROTO-ZAP!
Click the post title for the English version.

FINALLY! THE ORIGIN OF PROTO-ZAP REVEALED!

From here starts his graphic adventures, Ben Tablet The Pixelated Hero PROTO-ZAP!

**When jokes get too technical, any questions posted in this entry will be answered by me. Thanks, I'd love to read from you. :D

Erik Katukomal's Upcoming Comics --UPDATE!

Here's another word for my upcoming comics for this year. This time, I'll give more details about it.

This is a treat for the artists and graphic designers of today.
If you feel left out by terminologies, forgive me, you're not just nerd enough.

The story will evolve around Ben Tablet, a graphic artist. Things about his profession, his office experiences, his co-workers ...and of course, his alter ego! What would a normal guy do if one day he got super powers? A question that was already answered by Peter Parker, Hal Jordan, Narda and a whole lot. Some of them got superhuman strength, agility, speed, ability to fly. Some of them mixed and matched super power value meals from the menu. But none of them knew the fearsome potential of the power to use a graphic software in the real world.

Ever heard of a hero who trapped a villain inside an alpha channel? Or prevented defeat by going notches back inside the history tab? Oh and of course, was there ever another hero who pixelated his face to protect his identity? No amount of geekness has ever reached this level!

This comics will be serialized in this blog.
Watch out this weekend. :-D ...and spread the word!

Hang Tough Brothers...

What happened to Japan earlier was really shocking. I could have never imagined those news footage happening for real. What more if it happened right before your eyes? The sheer fear itself could have killed. Cars driving away from raging water, trucks being pushed by the torrent just like a small toy, and fire? It was like a disaster movie, only there were no special effects. As I'm writing this 200 were already confirmed dead and thousands are missing. Not to mention, we're still in the early phase of counting? Man, this is so heartbreaking.

If only the Ultramen were real. If only Gundams and Mazingers were real. Yeah growing as little artists, I doubt it if some of us never knew them, our childhood heroes from the East. But this tragedy, no matter how horrible, it really is REAL. But things like this, they really happen. We people from different points in the globe, all of us have had some share of national tragedy. America's 9-11, Haiti's earthquake, Philippines' Ondoy, oh dark days. Nevertheless, hope never ceased to exist. We all have had bad days. Then again, Japan is such a strong country. From a historical fall back then they got up and reclaimed their rightful place in the world, I do believe they can do it again.

Hang tough brothers, with a little help from your neighboring friends, your sun is ready to shine for you again.

Literatti - An Artistic Blog: Great Filipino Painters of All Time - Fernando Amorsolo

Painting Blog 04: LIMOS-SINING

This artwork is dedicated to the artists in the Philippines for such disheartening support our government gives us. Though we take different paths, some alone while some in packs, some in the brightest roads while some in the darkest tunnels, for people to hear us out, let us not forget the pride of our art. With or without listeners, let our voice grow in itself until the very day our countrymen see the real colors we mixed and prepared for them.

"Limos-Sining"
Painted by Erik Pingol
2' x 4' Acrylic on Canvas

This painting will be displayed at the GMA Network Program Support Department (PSD) 2011 Painting Exhibit around next week (exact date will be confirmed and updated here) along with works of other  fantastic Filipino artists.

For some WIP and detailed photos of this painting, click that Read More dude. :-)

500! Ahoo!

To some, reaching 500 views is not even worth the wow. I celebrated reaching my first 300, drew portraits of my supporters to thank them, promised the next batch the same when I reached 500, and in just a day I did. That's 200+ views for a single day. This made me smile, really. But to some, it's not a big deal. Some sites/blogs I know, average more than a thousand a day, that would make my "celebrations" look stupid. But that's okay with me. For me, knowing people read my stuff, leave messages when they can, and share my links for others to click, that means a lot. Thanks everyone. I hope I could do more interesting articles and artworks that could really convince me my blog is worth your time.

In the mean time, I'm posting here the splash I did for my facebook account. Sorry, this was for the first 300. For the next batch of followers, you have my word, I'll do yours the first time I get the chance.

Uh just a call to action, to my reader Mitchtriousgirl, let me know how can I get your picture. As of the moment I don't have twitter. Obviously, this is for my next drawing project. Thank you. I hope you get to read this.

Painting Blog 03: SPIDERMEN!

PAINTING BLOG #2 is actually the previous post --"Warming Up". It's where I shared how I restarted painting. And in my last words from that post I said my hands were white hot, yes indeed! Right away I produced these three 22" x 28" acrylic artworks, under the pop-art category, SPIDERMEN! Browse on guys, here is where painting and comics met!

SPIDER-MAN 22" x 28" Acrylic on Canvas

SPIDER-MAN BLACK 22" x 28" Acrylic on Canvas

SCARLET SPIDER 22" x 28" Acrylic on Canvas

After these works, I went on exploring different techniques in painting and also started doing comics again. Yes, comics! That means coming next are comic-related posts. Be there to read it. :-D

WARMING UP

Late 2010, I started dusting-off my "fine arts" self. Despite the semi-busy days at work, I tried to sneak in some time to paint. Maybe due to the thought that I liked to fight off stress from my professional world and open a brighter channel of myself with a new hobby. Actually, painting wasn't really new to me. Having studied fine arts in the University (though painting wasn't my major), I had a few fights with brushes and different painting media. But then again, those "fights" were like half a decade ago. An old retired soldier.

So it began. Bought some brushes again and a new set of oil painting stuff, I revisited my old canvas which I bought the previous year only to be kept above my cabinet. I began painting some landscapes, portraits and abstracts in oil. Some were wasted panels while some were stroked with pride. After around four medium-sized panels (which I considered my "first batch"), I finally won back the confidence I needed for my new fights.

30" x 20" Oil on Canvas

The Real Kabalbalan Begins Here!

The official launch of Pilosopotassium blog is now!

I would like to thank everyone who clicked this blog. February 18, I launched the test pages of this web log and surprisingly, I reached an amount of 300+ visits, plus more than 10 followers. Thank you all guys. If only everyone who browsed my posts clicked on the "follow" button and had his/her face put on the follower thumbs, I could have thanked him/her a lot better. So for now, those who are visible in the followers' box will be rewarded by a personally (I did this!) drawn lineart portrait! Read on to see them. :-)
