BAGOONG DRAGON

This title card above was an attempt to revive this unfinished work of mine early this year.
Bagoong Dragon was a comic (as in comedic) and action-packed graphic novel I did in the year 2003. It tells about a lost guy with no memories. No known origin, no known relatives, absolutely nothing. The only clue he had that could connect him to his past was a single photograph of a funny (rather odd) looking guy he found in his pocket when he woke up in the rubble of what seemed like a ruined science infrastructure. He then started the pursuit of his lost past and little by little discovered surprising skills that he never knew he had or existed. Then unbelievably laugh-cracking antics and trouble all mixed together.

The graphic novel was never finished. Although I was already through writing the story, I only reached halfway in the illustration phase. And the biggest "unfortunately" I could ever write here is that I lost more than  half of the illustrated pages I had when one of my illustration portfolios had gone missing in late 2006. Well that took me hard enough to accept. Anyway, early this year I went back into rethinking the concept of this book. I came back into conceptualization and finally revised almost the whole flow of the story. At that same time, I did the rough storyboarding and finished approximately 35% of the shortened story.

Sadly, I have no plans of remaking this unfinished graphic novel right now. I have just finished Basag-Tuka and currently illustrating the next title (which actually has no final title yet). I don't know, the list just goes on and poor little Bagoong Dragon is still far down. I'm just posting these old illustrations as to mark my memory that I once had these, in case I lost the remaining pages and my memories just like my main dude here.

Basag-Tuka (Final) Update (?)

For those who have just come in, Basag-Tuka is Idelut's first animation project for 2011. It's also an illustrated book, by the way, of the same title that will soon hit the shelves. The concept, story, illustration and original screenplay is done by Erik Katukomal (that's me, man). It is currently being animated under the strict technical direction of Christopher Marasigan (SPOT Film Series) with Gary George Clotario as the main animation guy and Jocelyn Recibe as support Art Director.

I won't be posting Basag-Tuka articles for a while after this, since this project is already finished in the print medium and under production in the moving picture medium. Maybe one or two, or none at all for a while. Chris Marasigan, has now stepped in as the main animation director for the project and boy I say he really had things gone a notch higher. The guy just demands more and more new elements for the animation! So, of course those new artworks won't be seen in the print. That's more job for Katukomal (who thought his share is done by now), by the way. But I'm just glad production has gotten more competitive.

Competitive. Yes, that was the word. But why competitive? Well, Idelut team actually plans to compete, and Basag-Tuka is the bullet for the coming cross-fire. Okay here are some more of the artworks used in this project. I won't be posting much about this in the coming days since I'm starting out a new project. Maybe the next article to word out Basag-Tuka is the article to bear the finished animation project. I don't know, I'll just be crossing my fingers.

SENAKULO

Senakulo, a short video documentary by Easen Ragma. This post might be a bit little, but who cares anyway, it's the treatment and editing that count.

SPOT Film Series: BEACH HOUSE

Beach House, the fifth in the series of short films from Christopher Marasigan. This made me miss my folks in the province and of course the refreshing waves of summer vacation. Spot Film Series uploads new videos every Wednesday. I'm a bit late in uploading them here, but I heard this guy's setting up his own blog for films and photography.

BASAG-TUKA Book Intro

Here are some of the first pages of the Basag-Tuka book. Well, sorry this is just the intro, I wouldn't want the animated version, which is currently in animation production by the way, to be spoiled here. The book as I had mentioned in my previous posts is finished and just waiting for the other installments to hit the lines. As of now I'm planning to have it translated into English. I think that wouldn't be too difficult since I originally thought of this project in English narration in my mind. I hope this is cool enough for you guys. :-D

IDELUT 2011: Basag-Tuka Update (Again)

Basag-Tuka is finished! In the book format, that is. In the animation feature format though, production is still on going. It's all bloody and dramatic as the picture has it above. Right now, I'm not sure about what I'd do with the book/print  version, whether release it on the next comic con or publish it in the web for free or wait for the other stories to complete the collection then publish. Yes, Basag-Tuka is just one installment in a collection of short illustrated stories. Well, this is my first statement to mention that. It's quite exciting really, because the next plot is actually done (writing) and some other plots are also done (thinking). I'll reveal details little by little in every update.

And of course, kindly wait up and check for updates, I'll be posting here some pages of the book (this title), and not that I'm bragging but the art works are really good. I'd say this is something I'm proud of.

SPOT Film Series: Caridad

After days of waiting, it's finally up. The fourth title in the SPOT Film Series by Christopher Marasigan, CARIDAD. Very nice video edit and treatment as expected.
